Ways to Be Involved

Delegate

Delegates represent voters within the party structure and take part in important decision-making.

  • Typically elected by voters
  • Vote at County Conventions during a two-year cycle
  • May participate in State Conventions
  • Encouraged to attend county events and stay engaged

This role is ideal for those who want a voice in party decisions and can attend periodic conventions.

Executive Committee Member

Executive Committee members help guide the direction and operations of the county organization.

  • Chosen by Delegates at a County Convention
  • Attend regular monthly meetings
  • Participate in community events
  • Stay informed on county, city, and township issues

This role is best for individuals ready for consistent leadership and organizational involvement.

Other Ways to Support

Not everyone can commit to meetings or conventions, but support is still valuable.

  • Volunteer at events
  • Assist with outreach and communications
  • Help with administrative tasks
  • Provide community support in various ways

Official Responsibilities of a Precinct Delegate

Core Role

Attend, participate in, and vote at four county conventions during the 2-year term. Delegates may also be elected to serve on a party committee, attend up to three state conventions, and one national convention.

County Conventions

  • Elect county party leadership
  • Elect state delegates to attend state conventions

State Conventions

  • Elect state party leadership
  • Nominate party candidates for:
    • Attorney General
    • Secretary of State (statewide election years)
    • Presidential Electors (presidential election years)
    • Michigan Supreme Court – 2
    • Board of Education – 2
    • University Boards of WSU, UOM, and MSU – 2 each

Community Outreach

  • Raise awareness of political issues and actions taken by leadership
  • Promote party candidates
  • Encourage civic engagement (voting, events, advocacy)

Party Outreach

  • Inform party leadership of voter issues and concerns
  • Represent the precinct at party meetings and political events

Republican Executive Committee Meetings and County Conventions are conducted using parliamentary procedure based on Robert’s Rules of Order.
